About Us

SBD Studio is a multidisciplinary company that formed in 2009 bringing together landscape architecture, planning, construction, and long term landscape care. Our team comes from different places, disciplines, and experiences, but shares a belief that the best work happens when these perspectives come together.

We are designers and builders who value creativity, collaboration, and a deep understanding of place. From the earliest idea through construction and beyond, we remain closely connected to the work, creating places that are thoughtful, enduring, and rooted in the landscapes and communities they serve.

Andy Coyne

Maintenance Manager
Andy Coyne brings a deep connection to the desert and a hands on understanding of the landscapes he helps care for. Living in Arizona and raising a variety of animals such as goats, horses, and other farm animals has given him a firsthand appreciation for the relationships between land, water, plants, animals, and people.

With extensive experience in landscape construction and maintenance, Andy understands how landscapes evolve over time. He believes a successful landscape is a living environment that continues to change and mature, requiring thoughtful care, attention to detail, and respect for the natural systems that sustain it.

Angela Tana

Design Architect, NCARB, LEED AP
Growing up in Connecticut, Angela discovered her passion for design as a child and eventually moved west to study architecture at Arizona State University. The beauty and character of the desert captured her imagination, and she has made Arizona her home ever since.

Angela brings a collaborative, hands on approach to her work and especially values being involved from concept through completion, working closely with the broader team and seeing ideas become reality in the field.

Her architectural perspective expands SBD’s integrated approach to design, where landscape, architecture, construction, and place are considered as parts of a larger whole.

Kevin McKitrick

Director of Construction
Kevin McKitrick brings a strong understanding of the relationship between the natural and built environment to SBD. Throughout his academic and professional career, he has focused on how these systems can work together to create stronger, more cohesive projects.

His work focuses on strengthening the connection between designers and builders, creating a more holistic process from initial concept through construction and completion. Kevin believes close collaboration across disciplines is essential to realizing the full potential of a design.

John Suarez

Principal
Originally from Bolivia, John Suarez sees landscape as more than a setting. It is the stage upon which people, nature, and culture continuously interact. His approach to design is rooted in curiosity about these relationships and a desire to create places that bring greater awareness to the world around us.

Drawing from biology and ecology as much as from art and the work of the great masters, John approaches design at the intersection of science and art. His work celebrates beauty while creating environments that are meaningful, responsive, and deeply connected to their surroundings.

Juan Brenes

Principal, RLA, Licensed Contractor
Juan Brenes brings a multidisciplinary perspective shaped by his background in Spain and his experience across design, planning, landscape architecture, and construction. His interest in design has always been closely connected to understanding natural systems and the ways they influence the places and communities we inhabit.

Throughout his career, Juan has worked across urban design, planning, landscape, and construction, developing a practical understanding of how ideas move from concept to reality. He believes the strongest projects emerge when design, construction, and the natural environment are considered together from the beginning.

This integrated perspective continues to guide his work at SBD, where he brings together creative thinking, technical knowledge, and hands-on construction experience to create places that are both thoughtful and timeless.
